‘TIS THE SEASON TO GIVE BACK WITH GLOBAL NEWS TORONTO’S 12 DAYS OF GIVING

Annual Partnership with Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive Takes Place December 6 to 17, 2021

For Immediate Release

TORONTO, November 16, 2021 – Global News Toronto is proud to partner with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive and primary sponsor Spin Master for the 15th consecutive year to bring the spirit of the season to families across the city. To ensure the continued safety of the community during COVID-19 pandemic, Global News Toronto will again host a special 12 Days of Giving for its second year, in lieu of its annual Toy Drive Live. From December 6 to 17, people are welcome to make monetary donations Globalnews.ca/toronto or donate new, unwrapped toys to a local fire station in the Toronto area. To further support children in need, Global News will introduce a “Text to Donate” option during this period.

This impactful charitable initiative is held to encourage online donations during the Toy Drive period to help underprivileged families and children in need across the GTA. In 2020, nearly $106,000 was raised over the 12-day period. As this time continues to be exceptionally challenging for many, with the rise in poverty and financial struggles amid the global pandemic, proceeds will not only be used to provide toys, but also basic necessities including underwear, socks and other basic hygiene items. Additionally, the Toy Drive has partnered with Kits for a Cause for an efficient way to give back, offering “Holiday Gift Kit” or “Winter Warmth Kit” donations of pre-packaged items. Visit kitsforacause.com for more details.

“We’re so proud to continue giving back to our community during the holiday season with our annual partnership with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive,” said Mackay Taggart, Ontario Regional Director of News, Global News. “The pandemic has taken an emotional and financial toll on many families and we’re grateful to our generous viewers who help bring joy and ensure every child has an opportunity to receive a gift during the holidays.”

“We really appreciate the public’s participation and donation over the years to help the community,” said Geoff Berenz, President Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive. “We’re proud to have helped thousands of families and children throughout the years and it’s really due to the partners, donors and participants who have allowed us to do that great work. This year, we’re hoping to reach our donation goal of $15,000 and I want to thank everyone in advance for their kind contributions.”

During 12 Days of Giving, local Global News anchors will share stories regarding the progress and impact of the donations, and the various ways people can help make a difference during the festive season.
