Toronto, ON April 4, 2017 — Kids Can Press, the Toronto-based children’s book publisher and a division of Corus Entertainment, has been named Children’s Publisher of the Year in North America at the annual Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

The BOP award is among the world’s most highly regarded international prizes in children’s publishing. The prize was handed out at an awards presentation at the Bologna Book Fair on Monday, April 3, 2017. Associate publisher, Semareh Al-Hillal, was in attendance to accept the award. Kids Can Press president, Lisa Lyons Johnston, alerted her team in Toronto of the news: “I’m so proud of the team at Kids Can Press, as well as our talented authors and illustrators. This is a recognition of our group effort and the amazing year Kids Can Press has had — and it’s made all the more special winning this award during Canada’s 150th year!”

Recent milestones for Kids Can Press include the continued success of Ashley Spires’s picture book The Most Magnificent Thing (the book has sold more than 250,000 copies and an animated film based on the book is currently in production with Nelvana) and the launch of a new young adult imprint, KCP Loft, with the first two novels on its debut list launching today.
