GLOBAL NEWS TORONTO SPREADS JOY WITH ANNUAL HOLIDAY DRIVE

Partnership with Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive Takes Place December 1 to 31, 2022

For Immediate Release

TORONTO, November 30, 2022 – Global News Toronto is pleased to partner with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive and primary sponsor Spin Master for the 16th consecutive year to bring the spirit of the season to families across the city. From December 1 to 31, people are encouraged to make monetary donations here, text to donate at TOYDRIVE (45678), or donate new, unwrapped toys to a local fire station in the Toronto area.

This impactful charitable initiative encourages donations to help underprivileged families and children in need across the GTA. In 2022, a record-breaking $200,000 was raised over the month-long campaign. To make the holiday season extra special for kids across the city, proceeds will not only be used to provide toys, but also basic necessities including underwear, socks and other basic hygiene items.

“We’re so proud to continue giving back to our community during the holiday season with our annual partnership with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive,” said Mackay Taggart, Ontario Regional Director of News, Global News. “Over the past several years with support from the community, we have helped thousands of families celebrate Christmas. We’re grateful to our generous viewers who have uplifted people’s spirit to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a gift during the holidays.”

“The last two years have shown us the tremendous generosity of the community,” said Geoff Berenz, President Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive. “We’re so happy we have been able to continue helping the community during the pandemic and it’s really due to the partners, donors and participants who have allowed us to do that great work. This year, the need is greater than ever, and we’re hoping to reach our donation goal of $150,000 in monetary and toy donations. I want to thank everyone in advance for their kind contributions.”

Global News will also run Toy Drive Week from December 12 to 16, where local hosts Susan Hay, Liem Vu, Ross Hull, and Anthony Farnell will share stories highlighting how these generous donations impact people’s lives, and the various ways viewers can help make a difference during the festive season.
