GLOBAL NEWS AND CORUS RADIO STATIONS IN EASTERN CANADA GIVE BACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

December 1, 2023 – ‘Tis the season of giving, and Corus stations in Ontario and Quebec are doing just that as the year comes to an end. Beginning in November and happening until the end of December, Global News and Corus Radio stations are hosting major holiday fundraising initiatives in their communities to help those in need.

MONTREAL   

The annual Food and Toy Drive for Generations Foundation, now entering its 25th year, kicked off on November 16 – and will run until December 15 – with a live broadcast on Global Montreal. The fundraising event provides thousands of children in the area, who may not otherwise receive one, with a gift. It also provides non-perishable food items to families in need. In addition to toys and food, the foundation is also accepting monetary donations to buy food for families this holiday season. Monetary donations can be made here, and toys and food can be dropped off at any of the locations listed here.

 

ONTARIO  

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation Santa’s Sleigh Program supported by 101.5 The Wolf, 100.5 Fresh Radio and Global Peterborough began on November 24 – running until December 4 – and has helped make the holidays brighter for local children for the past 34 years. The program aims to raise funds for the enrichment of children, youth and families involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society. All donations will go directly to children in need, putting smiles on families’ faces this holiday season. The Children’s Fund Christmas Tree of Hope, supported by Energy 95.3, Y108 and 900 CHML in Hamilton, brings hope to kids and families who are struggling during the holiday season. The campaign now serves as the primary fundraiser for the Children’s Fund. On December 1, trees were lit in Gore Park Hamilton and Burlington as symbols of the community’s efforts.  Donations of $10 or $20 can be made by texting DONATE to 30333.

 

Corus Radio London Drive-Thru Toy Drive in support of the Salvation Army is back. Brought to you by Fresh 103.1, Country 104, FM 96, 980 CFPL this initiative ensures that every child wakes up with a gift on Christmas morning.

Each station will be collecting donations on-site at the Delta London Armouries, 325 Dundas St., London, and online, with FM 96 on-site December 8, and Country 104, 980 CFPL and Fresh 103.1 on December 14.

December 1, Cornwall community members stopped by St. Francis de Sales Parish with non-perishable food items in support of the St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank. The boom Breakfast team supported the event by encouraging the people of Cornwall to donate food to those in need this holiday season.

 

Ottawa’s JUMP! 106.9 and boom 99.7 helped fill fridges this holiday season by taking part in the OC Transpo Ottawa Food Bank Drive. The Food Drive, which took place during the month of November, kicked off the season by helping the Ottawa food bank feed those who need. Listeners were asked to donate non-perishable food items, and monetary donations.

 

The 104.3 Fresh Radio team wanted to make sure that children in the Kingston community keep warm this winter season through Clothes for Kids. The goal was to $50,000 in funds needed to provide snowsuits to children in need, which the Fresh team was able to do thanks to the support of the community and clients.

Funds were raised through events like Pizza Day, with Domino’s Pizza.  Every Wednesday for five weeks, when listeners and viewers made a $5 donation, they received a medium pizza as a thank you from Domino’s.  Pizza Day raised $22,655.00 for Clothes for Kids.

 

BIG 101 and Fresh 93.1’s Barrie and District Christmas Cheer event is back, supporting families who are living paycheck to paycheck and who aren’t able to cover the extras during this season.  Christmas Cheer helps everyone – from grandparents raising grandkids, to young parents of small children, to single parents, married parents and everyone in between.

You can text the word ‘CHEER’ to 30333, and choose the dollar amount to donate, $5, $10, $20 or $25. If you would like to make a physical donation, you can drop it off at the Fresh 93.1 Studios at 1125 Bayfield St. N.

107.5 Dave Rocks presents Glorious Giving with The Morning Buzz! – a holiday initiative aiding the The Foodbank of Waterloo Region to collect much needed items. On weekday mornings at 8:10 a.m., Gayle, Jessie and Darryl will reveal an item off The Foodbank’s Wishlist and listeners are encouraged to cross each item off the list and bring them to the Glorious Giving Food Drive at Waterloo Brewing Taphouse on Friday, December 8th from 2pm – 6pm.

Everyone who drops off food or makes a donation to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will go into the draw to win tickets to see The Glorious Sons at The Aud on December 16, plus qualify for a meet & greet with the band!

 

Guelph’s Magic 206 and CJOY participated in their annual Adopt a Family broadcast on November 21. The event, broadcasted live on location from The Children’s Foundation in Guelph, encouraging listeners to donate to the cause throughout the day.  Thanks to the generosity of our listeners, 91 families were adopted, resulting in over $32,000 in donations for the community!

 

For 19 years Toronto’s Q107 has been supporting Abuse Hurts – an organization that provides hope through accessible support, healing and individual empowerment for adult survivors, their families, and caregivers.  50/50 tickets are being sold online, and the winner will be announced on Mornings with Shawna, Ryan and Johnny Friday, December 22.

 

102.1 the Edge’s Feliz Navi Claws is returning to Ren’s Pets in Liberty Village in Toronto on Friday, December 8 in support of the Ontario OSPCA.

Listeners can donate online to the animal organization and pack up their furry friends and join Kolter and Casey-Jo at Ren’s Pets to enter raffles, giveaways and more!

 

Global News Toronto is once again supporting the Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive for the 17th consecutive year. The initiative helps support the less fortunate by encouraging the community to donate either a monetary donation, or an unwrapped toy at any local Toronto Fire Hall.

640 Toronto and The Children’s Breakfast Clubs are partnering up to collect gently used winter coats for the inaugural 640 Toronto Winter Coat Drive. On Friday, December 15, they will be stationed in the lobby at Corus Quay from 6-10 a.m. where listeners and staff will be invited to drop off winter coats for adults or children in need. Host The Toronto Today With Greg Brady show will be broadcasting live on scene.

A drive-thru will also be available in front of the building where people can pull up and a volunteer will grab their donation.
