MONTREAL, September 13, 2022 – Global Montreal celebrates 25 years of bringing engaging and informative local and national news stories to the city. In 1997, Global News became the third English-language television network to broadcast in Quebec. Since the station had its first broadcast, a quarter of a century ago, technology and the television news industry has changed dramatically, and Global Montreal has been at the forefront of those changes as it continues to bring viewers the stories that matter most. Global Montreal is not only available on cable and through satellite services, but it can also be viewed through streaming services like Amazon Prime and Roku or via the station’s app, Global TV.

“There have been so much change in our industry in the past two and a half decades but the one constant for me has been getting to work with a dedicated, passionate and award-winning group of journalists,” said Global Montreal News Director and Station Manager Karen MacDonald (one of three remaining members of the original team who built the station). “For the past 25 years, we have covered important local stories from the ice storm of 1998, the tragic shooting at Dawson College in September 2006, to the election of the first female mayor of Montreal, Valerie Plante, and we will continue to tell the stories that impact the communities we serve.”

This milestone anniversary will be celebrated with a special broadcast on Global News Morning and through stories throughout the day showcasing the significant stories the station has covered for the last 25 years. It can also be viewed @Globalnews.ca/Montreal.
