CORUS ENTERTAINMENT AND KIDS CAN PRESS
ANNOUNCE NEW APPOINTMENTS AND KEY PROMOTIONS

Toronto, Canada Corus Entertainment’s Kids Can Press announced today a number of management and structural changes to its team, welcoming new additions and promoting top talent to new positions under the leadership of President Lisa Lyons Johnston, who now adds Publisher to her title and portfolio.

These changes poise Kids Can Press to further enhance their reputation as a global leader in children’s publishing. In recent years, Kids Can Press has built upon the continued success of their core publishing list with new revenue streams through strategic external and internal partnerships, including a slate of exciting page-to-screen projects with Nelvana Enterprises, also a Corus Entertainment company.

As well as the addition of Publisher to Lisa Lyons Johnston’s remit, the changes to the Kids Can Press team are as follows:

Lara Caplan has joined the company as Associate Publisher, Operations and Business Development, reporting to Lisa Lyons Johnston. With 16 years of experience in the publishing industry, Lara was most recently Senior/Executive Publisher at Nelson. Lara will focus on business optimization, including opportunities to mine the considerable Kids Can Press backlist as well as identifying new initiatives.

Naseem Hrab, formerly Marketing Director, has been promoted to the new position of Associate Publisher, Creative, reporting to Lisa Lyons Johnston. Naseem, who is also a published children’s book author, brings her creative perspective as well as nine years of children’s book marketing experience at Kids Can Press and three years as Librarian at the Canadian Children’s Book Centre to the role. Naseem will oversee marketing and lead the development of the publishing list in concert with Editorial Director Yvette Ghione.

Alison Van Ginkel has been promoted from Sales and Rights Associate to International Sales Manager and Brand Manager, KCP Loft, reporting to Sales Director Molly Helferty. With seven years of experience at Kids Can Press, Alison’s promotion recognizes her significant accomplishments in English- and foreign-language sales and licensing in the U.S. and international markets and tasks her with continuing to build sales in these markets. In addition, she will now work with KCP Loft’s Editorial Director Kate Egan and the marketing department to drive the overall success of the company’s YA imprint.

There have also been two recent changes within the editorial department.

Katie Scott, formerly Associate Editor, has been promoted to Editor. She has been with Kids Can Press for five years, and has developed a number of projects into highly acclaimed and award-winning books.

Kathleen Keenan joins Kids Can Press as Editor, with five years of writing and editorial experience, having worked in editorial roles at both Inhabit Media and Nelson.
