Videojournalist/ Digital Broadcast Journalist

We’re looking for a full time Digital Broadcast journalist with Global New Brunswick, working in our Fredericton bureau. You will work as part of a small team in NB, reporting to our editorial team in Halifax.

About the Role
Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and develop story ideas through contact development, research and interviews;
  • Shoot, write, voice and edit news stories for broadcast and online;
  • Strong on-air presentation
  • Utilize new technology and social media on a daily basis to provide video, stills and streaming video for online, social media and broadcast;
  • Demonstrate strong editorial, visual and communications skills;
  • Work effectively under pressure with ability to meet deadlines;
  • Working knowledge of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats;
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in journalism, radio/television broadcasting or equivalent;
  • Minimum two years’ experience in television news reporting with extensive ENG experience (Sony XD digital camera preferred) audio and lighting systems, as well as smartphone newsgathering;
  • Strong news judgment and writing abilities;
  • Ability to go live from the field with strong presentation skills and clarity;
  • Ability to work well under pressure, in a deadline-driven workplace, with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Proficient with non-linear editing;
  • Valid driver’s licence and a clear driving record;
  • Working knowledge of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats;
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;
  • Familiarity with current state of online news reporting and where it’s headed;
  • Must be proficient in creating, curating and developing content using digital operating systems for multiple platforms.
