On Monday, August 5th, YTV launches the animé series Hamtaro, the latest craze from Japan about Hamtaro, a cuddly pet hamster and his gang of friends the Hams Hams.
Hamtaro airs Mondays – Fridays, 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. (r) Fridays, 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. (rr) Sundays, 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Based on the popular Japanese children’s storybooks first published in 1997, this Japanese Television series launched in July 2000 and is currently the top rated children’s program on TV Tokyo. Over 7.5 million copies of the Hamtaro storybooks have been sold and Hamtaro is also the top selling children’s video and music soundtrack in Japan. This series is already gaining momentum in the U.S. – for its June 2002 launch Hamtaro ranked number one within its time slot among kids on U.S. cable television.
* The insatiably curious Hamtaro and his friends hangout together in their Ham-Ham Club House and embark on countless adventures. This hit series features over 16 different characters with distinct personalities. Strong themes such as teamwork, mutual respect and friendship are at the core of this delightful series. In Japan, many Hamtaro fans have adopted the Ham Hams’ unique language to communicate with their friends; expressions include words such as Heke (a sound made when surprised or confused – similar to huh) and Hamha (good morning or hello).
