Toronto, Canada – Showcase announced today the launch of its innovative, hybrid virtual reality scripted web series, Halcyon, available to watch now in Canada exclusively on Made up of 10 short-form webisodes and five interactive VR episodes, Halcyon is an interactive police procedural designed to first captivate viewers, and then bring them deeper into the complex story through virtual reality. For the ultimate viewer experience, watch all 15 episodes on the Halcyon VR app for Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus.

Set in the year 2040, the series centres on Blake Creighton (Toronto-native Michael Therriault, Heroes Reborn), the CEO of the world’s leading virtual reality company: Halcyon. Having cornered the market on VR, the company has discarded the VR headset and allows users to access virtual space using neurological implants that manipulate the senses to create a virtual world. When Creighton is found dead, and presumed murdered, Detective Jules Dover (Toronto’s Lisa Marcos, Lost Girl) and her partner, Asha (Ottawa-native Harveen Sandhu, Pygmalion), must consider if this could be the world’s first virtual murder.

Halcyon’s VR episodes transport viewers to another plane of reality, immersing them in the actual investigation of Creighton’s mysterious death. The viewer’s VR experience begins in a virtual rendering of the crime scene where they interact with objects in the room, collect evidence, and dust for fingerprints – ultimately leading to clues which solve the crime. For those without a VR headset, video recaps of the VR episodes will be available online, ensuring that all fans are able to follow the crime and investigation from start to finish.

Halcyon is created and produced by Secret Location, the Canadian multi-Emmy® and Cannes Lion Award-winning content studio who specialize in content for emerging platforms, with the financial participation of the Independent Production Fund and the Ontario Media Development Corporation.
