Discovery Kids acquires 26 episodes of 2-D animated comedy
(MIPCOM 2005, Cannes, France)—Today at MIPCOM 2005, Nelvana announces that it has reached a 26-episode agreement with Discovery Kids in North America for its new 2-D animated comedy Grossology. The series is slated to premiere on Discovery Kids Channel in 2006. Based on the book series by Sylvia Branzei, Grossology follows the crime-solving adventures of brother and sister team Ty and Abby Archer, who report to the secret government Department of Grossology. Aided by the infamous Lab Rat, these Field Grossologists face criminals like Sloppy-Joe, the world’s filthiest thief and Lance Boil, a former Grossologist turned evil megalomaniac. Kids love all things gross, and this property delivers with a revolting mixture of licensing action and the greasiest goop and gunk this side of the sewer. Grossology combines adventure with a gross dose of comedy aimed directly at the funny bone.
“Discovery Kids is the perfect home for this blend of entertainment and science fact, and we’re thrilled to build a relationship with this channel in the U.S. market,” said Scott Dyer, Executive VP of Production and Development, Nelvana. “Nelvana is committed to clever and creative comedies, and viewers of this action-comedy for kids six to 11 will get to follow along with Ty and Abby on each of their stomach-turning adventures that mix mystery, action and comedy with all things gross.”
”We’re thrilled to take Discovery Kids Channel into a totally gross new direction,” said Marjorie Kaplan, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Discovery Kids Channel. “Grossology’s unique take on science reflects our constant pursuit of presenting the real world in ways our audience might not expect but always will enjoy.”
