• New Science Investigation Drama Stars Peter Outerbridge
  • Premieres Sunday, October 24 at 9 p.m. MT/ET With Two Back-To-Back Episodes

(Toronto, Canada) Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) announced today the premiere of ReGenesis, a made-for-pay television series that asks the question “has science gone too far?” The 13-episode series launches with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, October 24 at 9 p.m. MT/ET, with subsequent one-hour episodes airing Sundays at 9 p.m. MT/ET.

The future is here. Bioterrorism. Designer babies. Frankenfoods. Suddenly humanity possesses the ability to play god. But is it progress—or madness? Will cutting-edge biotechnology be our salvation? Or our demise? ReGenesis is based at the North American Biotechnology Advisory Commission (NorBAC), an organization created to investigate questionable advances in biotechnology. Formed by Canada, the U.S. and Mexico out of a desperate need for a world-class lab, the team of researchers is constantly struggling to discover how the impossible came to be – while keeping a step ahead in the race against science. Leading the investigations is hotheaded molecular biologist David Sandström (Peter Outerbridge Men With Brooms).

David and Executive Director Caroline Morrison (Maxim RoyLes Boys), oversee a team of investigators including Mayko (Mayko NguyenGoing the Distance), Carlos (Conrad PlaOdyssey 5), Bob (Dmitry ChepovetskyHigher Ground) and Jill (Sarah StrangeThe L Word). Together, they go behind today’s headlines – from viruses to cloning and stem cell research – to explore the consequences of science gone awry. “We are extremely excited to be introducing this new dynamic cast of characters and storylines on our networks”, said Michelle Marion, Director, Canadian Independent Productions, The Movie Network.

“Pay-TV is the outlet to push the creative envelope, and as a result provide the edgy and sophisticated programming to which our consumers have become accustomed. ReGenesis successfully fits the bill on all accounts.” “It’s very exciting to be launching such a compelling and thought-provoking series, the largest original production for Pay-TV in Canadian history,” says Andrew Eddy, Vice President and General Manager, Movie Central. “With gripping storylines based on science-fact, not science-fiction, ReGenesis offers viewers a new genre of adventure, while encouraging audiences to question the impact of science on our lives.”

Directing duties for ReGenesis are shared by three of Canada’s most celebrated film and television directors, Gemini Award-winner Jerry Ciccoritti (Trudeau), Gemini Award-winner Don McBrearty (The Interrogation of Michael Crowe), and Genie and Gemini-nominee John L’Ecuyer (Queer as Folk). ReGenesis is produced by Shaftesbury Films for Movie Central and The Movie Network, with the participation of Corus Entertainment Inc., The Movie Network, the Canadian Television Fund – License Fee Program, Rogers Cable Network Fund, the Independent Production Fund, and the Government of Ontario – The Ontario Film & Television Tax Credit.
