Dedicated broadcasters line-up for more from Europe’s favorite turtle
(Cannes, France) Franklin can count by twos and tie his shoes. And now—thanks to Nelvana’s international sales team—he can enjoy a significantly increased broadcast presence in the European market. Leading a recent charge of completed European TV deals for Franklin is U.K. terrestrial channel Five TV, which began airing its 78 x half hour run on weekday morning preschool strand Milkshake last month. “We are delighted that Franklin has arrived on Five TV—a wonderful U.K. destination for this classic brand,” said Lynn Chadwick, Nelvana’s Director of Sales for Northern Europe. “We trust that Franklin will perform well and become a true friend to British children.” Other broadcasters to recently exclaim, “Hey, it’s Franklin!” include:
- Ki.Ka (Germany, Franklin: Back to School, Franklin and the Green Knight)
- Finland’s YLE (Franklin: Back to School, Franklin’s Magic Christmas)
- Slovak TV (renewal of eps. 1-26 and acquisition of Franklin: Back to School)
- Rexmore in Brazil (Home video: series and specials)
- Minimax Poland (renewal of 39 episodes)
Franklin also airs on: TF1 in France (where it has enjoyed an average 43% share during its five-year run); DRI (Denmark); SVT (Sweden); ZDF (Germany); NRK (Norway); Cartoon Network Latin America; Club RTL (French-speaking Benelux); Fox Kids (Dutch-speaking Benelux); SF DRS Switzerland; ORF Austria; Minimax Hungary; RTV Slovenja; Canal 11 (Mexico) and NOGA Israel. “Franklin has skyrocketed to icon status in France over the past five years,” said Emmanuele Petry, Nelvana’s Senior VP, International. “Now his charm and sincerity has crossed borders and the rest of Europe and Latin America have fallen for him. The secret to his success? He’s a typical kid inside his turtle shell.”
Based on the best-selling books by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark, Franklin follows the adventures of a six year-old turtle with a hard shell and a soft heart. Whether it’s fear of the dark or being nervous about any new situation, Franklin and his band of animal pals face challenges that teach empowering lessons along the way.
