The Big Rip Tears Open a New Universe of Games

(Toronto, Canada) Get ready to enter the virtual universe of The Big Rip. Corus Entertainment Inc. announced the launch today of a network of massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) that represents one of the most extensive MMOGs for tweens in North America. is the gateway to a virtual world in which players can play, explore, chat, compete, collect, create and customize characters in a safe online environment.

“MMOGs are one of the fastest growing segments in online games,” says Lucie Lalumiere, Vice President & General Manager Interactive, Corus Television. “This initiative builds on our expertise for creating innovative content and great entertainment experiences for tweens that are age-appropriate. With the launch of The Big Rip we’ve created a rich and immersive game community that enables tweens to interact with our content and with other players in an unparalleled way, while offering a depth of customization and creativity that is unmatched in the marketplace.”

Built into the beta version of The Big Rip is the flagship world GalaXseeds representing the first of more worlds to come. Found in the weirdest corner of space, this galactic community exists within an infinitely small unknown organism. The community is made up of strange and wonderful gardeners called Seedizens. Players can join one of four clans and collaborate and compete to maintain the fragile balance of the universe. They can customize their own lovably warped character and tailor their surroundings to suit their tastes. Every Seedizen lives in a Pod, and every Pod houses a garden where players can grow endless combinations of bizarre and incredible plants. Seedizens buy and sell their creations at the Garden Shop to earn Botanickels and advance in the game. In addition to competing in mini-games, players can interact with other Seedizens through a safe chat system. They can also visit other players’ Pods and scope out their outrageous customized interiors. GalaXseeds features zany animated graphics, exciting game-play and endless game opportunities and is destined to make surreal space-gardening the next hot hobby for kids. As The Big Rip’s universe expands, future game worlds will include popular on-air characters, original animation and uniquely branded worlds.

The Big Rip’s whimsical and intricate design sets the stage for a world of possibilities,” says Lucie Lalumiere. ”The beauty of The Big Rip is that participants can play and interact with one another in real time, from anywhere in the world, and through their participation, the players generate and advance the storyline. It becomes a living, evolving social game that inspires tweens’ ingenuity, self-expression and creativity.”

Targeted to tweens, The Big Rip is free to join and designed with tweens’ safety in mind. The site follows strict privacy policies and the chat application is built around a unique and flexible word dictionary that ensures safety while still encouraging self-expression.
