As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, we want to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on the steps we are taking to ensure the safety and well-being of our people while maintaining business continuity as we serve our audiences and our clients in new ways. As always, we remain committed to delivering high-quality news and entertainment programming across a multitude of platforms to audiences across the country.
How we are supporting our people
The health, safety and well-being of our people is our utmost priority. We’ve focused the support efforts of our internal technology team to enable as many people as possible to work from home. For those job functions that require on-site presence, we are creating a safe environment through measures such as reduction of the number of staff on our premises at one time in order to enable the required distancing and increased frequency of cleaning.
Internally our teams are meeting daily across all areas of the business to monitor, address, and respond to the latest developments as guided by the World Health Organization, the Government of Canada and nuances by province. We are regularly undertaking their recommended precautions to minimize risk of virus transmission.
How we are supporting our clients and partners
Wherever we may be working from, we remain fully operational and committed to ensuring there is no interruption to how our clients and partners connect with us to do business. We have asked our staff to conduct business via skype or teleconference wherever possible to respect safe distancing during this time. We have also restricted all travel.
We are here to support your needs as they evolve. We have agile creative teams set up across the country to assist with adapting your creative, if needed, to best support and connect with consumers and communities in the coming weeks. We understand all marketers will have varying needs at this time and we will do our best to accommodate business needs as they arise.
It’s important for the health of our economy that we continue to look for opportunities to innovate and support Canadians during this period of uncertainty, as well as to deliver products and services to keep our country running. Our audiences are very much engaged with news and entertainment programming during these extraordinary times, and provide a continued opportunity for you to reach consumers.
Corus fully supports its production partners and the decisions being made to ensure the health and safety of all staff, cast, and crew in light of COVID-19. As each production differs in nature, location, and scale, decisions are being made on a case by case basis in accordance with the guidance from local health organizations.
How we are supporting our audiences
Uniting the country with #CanadaTogether
Corus has launched #CanadaTogether, a national initiative to help inspire, educate and engage Canadians as we band together during this unprecedented time. In addition to providing a trusted source of information and tools, #CanadaTogether shines a light on the incredible contributions and acts of kindness that businesses and individuals are making in the face of this pandemic, as Canadians demonstrate their remarkable ability to come together through this crisis. Anchoring the program is the new website canadatogether.com, providing Canadians with a variety of tools, information, resources, and entertainment to support them in the coming weeks.
The website also features a link to all of the COVID-19 related charitable causes. Corus is committed to supporting COVID relief efforts through donating to canadahelps.org, an organization that provides Canada-wide COVID-19 relief with a single donation, with additional fundraising initiatives to be announced.
Free previews now available
Corus remains dedicated to creating and delivering high quality content that audiences know and love. To that end, we have extended national free previews of several of our networks to Canadians through the following cable providers: Rogers, Bell, Telus, Cogeco, and Eastlink.
Keeping you informed
It’s at times like these that we are particularly reminded of the critical role that our news organization plays in our society. We are very proud of our Global News team, which has been operating under extraordinary conditions to ensure Canadians have the latest information on the outbreak, and its impact on society, health-care and the economy, offering around-the-clock news and information across platforms when you need it the most.
We want to assure our viewers that Global News is committed to continuing to provide local newscasts in television markets where we operate, to the extent possible. One of our foremost responsibilities to the public is to provide reliable information, particularly in times of crisis. Our journalists are following new protocols to interview subjects from a distance, and we are implementing multiple precautions to ensure we can continue to provide local news for our communities.
