Location: Global CalgaryGlobal Calgary’s News Department is seeking a permanent full-time Supervisor, ENG Editor (Group E) to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a large team of editors and will be responsible for the editing of local news, sports and community events for all platforms while supporting all members of the newsroom in their day to day work. Additional shifts to support and edit other live broadcasts – including early mornings, days, evenings and weekends will be required. Applicants will have proven leadership skills and an ability to work professionally in a dynamic and constantly changing environment with varied workflows. This position reports directly to the Executive Producer.

About the Role:


  • Create compelling content;
  • Be a strong advocate and mentor of Digital First Initiatives for online platforms
  • Ensure viewers’ interest is the centre of all editing decisions

Day-to-day operations:

  • Ensure essential communication between all editors with the rest of the newsroom
  • Follow-through on all errors
  • Support special event planning
  • Edit video and stories using non-linear software both in the newsroom
  • Support journalists editing in the field on a daily basis
  • Responsible for staff shifts and schedules
  • Ingest video to network servers for use across the Global News Network
  • Ensure essential communication from editors to Managing Editor, reporters, cameras, producers, directors, radio and online

Coach and mentor:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to editors while supporting other members of the newsroom
  • Conduct regular coaching sessions
  • Build editor bench strength
  • Lead quarterly roundtables with team to highlight success and areas of focus

Grow engagement:

  • Develop & implementation of new work processes
  • Develop new accountabilities for all staff
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and quarterly check-ins with direct reports
  • Lead regular one-on-one conversations to bolster overall engagement
  • Celebrate and showcase innovation to encourage professional growth
  • Communicate and model Corus Values daily

About You :

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience with non-linear editing. Familiarity with Edius/Grass Valley considered an asset
  • Be a natural leader with proven experience leading a complex team in a large broadcast market
  • Be an effective communicator who works independently and thrives under pressure
  • Have a passion for journalism with a strong interest in local news and a vision for the future
  • Possess strong fundamental knowledge in broadcast
  • Possess a broadcast-related degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Experience leading a team of dynamic people is an asset
  • Leader who is a plugged-in multi-tasker with a positive attitude
