Nelvana Enterprises has an exciting opportunity for a Product Development Specialist at our Toronto location. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all product approvals on a global basis.

Product Development Specialist
Division:  Nelvana Enterprises, Content Division

About the Role: 

Reporting to the Licensing Director, you will be responsible for managing the full product approval process with licensees – from concept through to final product. You will also build relationships with the key licensees to streamline process, requests and communications in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for product development, review and approvals for all Nelvana licensees on a global basis
  • Responsible for ensuring brand integrity within the Nelvana licensing and Agency licensing portfolios, and liaising with internal departments to accomplish this goal
  • Ongoing review of licensees’ product development in relation to rights granted to ensure all product categories are being exploited and designed on trend
  • Ensure all licensees are submitting products at all stages of approvals
  • Ensure all licensees are submitting final samples and manage the distribution of those samples to appropriate parties, internally and externally (light lifting will be required)
  • Remain current on latest product trends as it relates to all categories through regular store checks and present/report seasonal trend analysis to licensing team
  • Develop an understanding of competitive products (hard and softlines) and suggestions for improvements with licensee partners
  • Ownership of all digital assets and creation of seasonal reference catalogs full hard and soft lines built from seasonal licensee submissions
  • Strategize with Licensing and Marketing team to create a new process of lifestyle imagery to be utilized and shared with licensee partners
  • Manage, catalogue and organize samples in-house for all properties, keeping samples current and requesting for new samples when required for business needs and specific strategic requests
  • Liaise with the Licensing and Marketing team for all sample requests for tradeshows and presentations, management of process and timelines
  • Develop creative solutions to exit inventory of aged samples
  • Weekly reviews with Licensing team for key weekly submissions and report status and findings
  • Remain up-to-date on latest manufacturing techniques and quality standards

About You

What We Need From You:

  • 2-3 years’ experience as a Product Developer or Sales Coordinator in licensing, toy, soft lines or retail
  • Post-secondary education in graphic design, product design or retail studies an asset
  • Strong project management skills in order to manage full range of product approvals submissions, vetting comments through rights holders and returning comments in a timely manner to licensees
  • Solid problem solving and analytical skills to determine product development solutions for more complex categories or to reflect market preferences
  • Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to communicate to external partners in a diplomatic and collaborative manner
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Media Box product approvals system is an asset
  • Proactive as this business is deadline oriented
  • Background or personal interest in photography an asset but not requirement
