Work Status:  Full Time, 6 month contract
Location: Global Ottawa

Global News/The West Block is currently seeking a full time Producer (Group 1) to join their team for six months. The successful candidate will produce content for the weekly market-leading Sunday morning political affairs show “The West Block with Mercedes Stephenson”.  This position reports directly to the Bureau Chief.

Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position:
  • Assist in the editorial direction and production elements for the political affairs show
  • Develop and maintain a network of political contacts
  • Generate original and compelling political story ideas
  • Conduct research and book guests
  • Write news content for the “West Block with Mercedes Stephenson”
  • Produce news content from video gathered in the field
  • Display creativity in the use of production graphics and other visual elements
  • Control room experience an asset by not necessary
  • Experience writing social media content
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Hours of Work: May vary includes working some weekends as required

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma, certificate or equivalent, in a broadcasting or related field
  • Understanding of federal politics
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Highly organized, self motivated and creative
  • French language skills considered an asset

This is a bargaining unit position.  Group 1
