DUSK DECEMBER 2009 PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS

(Toronto, Canada) This December DUSK offers thrills and chills with a supernatural film every Saturday night. Also from December 21 until January 2 DUSK will feature a Hollywood hit film every night at 9 p.m. including the network premiere of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride on December 25.

SUPERNATURAL EVENT
This December, DUSK features films that go beyond the realm of the ordinary and into the mysterious with a supernatural thriller every Saturday at 9 p.m. Also airing during this event on Saturday, December 5 is Roman Polanski’s The Ninth Gate (1999) starring Johnny Depp.

Stigmata (1999) premieres Saturday, December 12 at 9 p.m.
Father Andrew Kiernan (Gabriel Byrne), a researcher and skeptic of miracles, is sent on behalf of the Vatican to discover the truth behind a young hairdresser (Patricia Arquette) who exhibits the stigmata, the physical wounds Christ received from his crucifixion. Father Kiernan’s investigation is riddled with questions as he is torn between helping Frankie and revealing the discovery of a long-lost Gospel that could spell disaster for the future of the Catholic Church.

Exorcism of Emily Rose
(2005) premieres Saturday, December 19 at 9 p.m.
A reluctant lawyer, Erin Bruner (Laura Linney), takes on the church and the state when she fights in defense of a priest, Father Richard Moore (Tom Wilkinson) who performed an exorcism that killed a young woman, Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter).

Bless the Child (2000) premieres Saturday, December 26 at 9 p.m.
A nurse, Maggie O’Connor (Kim Basinger), must delve into the world of satanic worship when her niece is kidnapped by a religious leader who believes she may be the second coming of the messiah. With the help of FBI Agent John Travis (Jimmy Smits), O’Connor must chase down the religious cult before the young girl is killed.

A perfect alternative to the hustle and bustle of the holiday, DUSK presents a stirring line up of eerie and exciting hit films airing every night at 9 p.m. from December 21 to January 2.

The Watcher in the Woods (1980) airs Tuesday, December 22 at 9 p.m.
The 'burbs (1989) airs Wednesday, December 23 at 9 p.m.
The Frighteners (1996) airs Thursday, December 24 at 9 p.m.
Bless the Child (2000) premieres Saturday, December 26 at 9 p.m.
The Skeleton Key (2005) airs Sunday, December 27 at 9 p.m.
Open Water (2003) airs Monday, December 28 at 9 p.m.
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) Tuesday, December 29 at 9 p.m.
The Witches (1990) airs Wednesday, December 30 at 9 p.m.
The Witches of Eastwick (1987) airs Thursday, December 31 at 9 p.m.
What Lies Beneath (2000) airs Friday, January 1 at 9 p.m.
Misery (1990) airs Saturday, January 2 at 9 p.m.
 
CHRISTMAS DAY
On Friday, December 25, DUSK features a special Tim Burton marathon leading up to the premiere of his second stop motion feature film Corpse Bride at 9 p.m.

Sleepy Hollow (1999) airs at 2:30 p.m.
Beetle Juice (1988) airs at 4:45 p.m.
Edward Scissorhands (1990) airs at 6:45 p.m.
Corpse Bride (2005) premieres at 9 p.m.
Set in a 19th century European village Tim Burton’s second stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp); a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and mistakenly wed to a cursed corpse. It is up to Victor's flesh-and-blood fiancée to free him from his specter-like bride so her dream wedding can happen. The voice cast includes Helena Bonham Carter and Emily Watson.

OTHER DUSK FILM PREMIERES

When a Stranger Calls
(2005) premieres Friday, December 11 at 9 p.m.
A remake of the 1979 original, When a Stranger Calls is a contemporary update of a well-known suburban legend. When 16-year-old Jill (Camille Belle) greatly exceeds her cell phone minutes, her parents force her to take a job babysitting instead of attending a huge bonfire party with her friends. With the children already asleep, Jill begins to receive calls from a heavy-breathing stranger and what at first appears to be a lame prank slowly becomes a real threat to the isolated teenager.

Black Christmas
(2005) premieres Thursday, December 24 at 1:30 a.m.
On a snowy Christmas Eve in the Alpha Kappa Gamma sorority house, a group of students are stalked by a mysterious killer. A remake of the 1974 film of the same name, Black Christmas stars Katie Cassidy (Melrose Place), Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl), Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) and the original film star Andrea Martin (SCTV).
