CORUS ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR 19 CANADIAN FILMS

Jewison Production among the Recipients

Next Submission Deadline for Funding September 30, 2009


(Toronto, Canada) Corus Entertainment is pleased to announce the latest recipients of the Corus Made with Pay Fund. For this round, a total of 19 films, representing the work of Canadian filmmakers from Lunenberg, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, British Columbia have been selected for development funding support.

The Corus Made with Pay Fund recipients include:
  • Academy Award® nominated Canadian filmmaker Norman Jewison and son Michael Jewison who team up on High Alert inspired by Jewison’s original feature Russians Are Coming, Russians Are Coming. With writers Rick Mercer (The Rick Mercer Report, Made In Canada) and Ed Riche (Life with Derek, The Nine Planets, Made In Canada) produced by Sandra Cunningham, directed by Norman Jewison.
  • Screenwriter William D. MacGillivray and producer Terry Greenlaw of Picture Plant Ltd. (Stations, Life Classes) for Bear, based on the Governor General Award-winning novel by Marian Engel, touted as the most controversial novel written in Canada.
  • Producer Damon D’Oliveira (Lie with Me, Poor Boy’s Game), screenwriter Ian Carpenter (ReGenesis, Summer of Love) and Conquering Lion Pictures for What Happened Later, a novel by Ray Robertson about a young man infatuated with the legendary beat writer Jack Kerouac and his classic book On the Road.
  • Markham Street Films and The Globe and Mail film columnist and screenwriter Johanna Schneller for Sailor Girl, based on the novel by Sheree-Lee Olson.

Administered by Movie Central, the Corus Made with Pay Fund provides financial support to Canadian television and film productions at various stages of development. Since 2003, the Fund has contributed $11 million in financing towards the development of feature-length films and original television drama series.

The next deadline for new applications for funding from the Corus Made with Pay Fund will be September 30, 2009. Applicants should note that new submission deadlines will be implemented starting September 2009, shifting deadlines to September, February and June.
